Books for the Catholic Home

Today I want to share some of my favorite Catholic books with you for your home library. We love a good book stack around here and what’s better than a spiritual book stack to help you in your faith journey? Who needs a cheesy romance novel or a suspense thriller when some of the best romantic stories are within the bible and the best suspense is woven throughout the old and new testaments?

Okay, I kid. I know you may love your fictional stories and who doesn’t love a good love story, but today I want to share some books that are wonderful resources for your family. Most of these books are not a “read front to back” kinda book (which is great for busy moms), but more of a read as you need type of book. And of course the most important book to have within your home is the Holy Bible, but these are excellent additions to learn and defend your faith with or deepen your prayer life with.

All homes should have the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This is such a wonderful book to have when you need to defend your faith or when you’re just curious about why you do what you do as a Catholic. It’s a long read and a “read as you need” book, unless you’re doing the “Catechism of the Catholic Church in a Year” podcast. But this has been a wonderful tool for us when we have questioned “why” a few times and it’s been a great addition for my current bible studies that uses it as well. I love this new addition from Ascension.

Pocket Guide to Adoration and Pocket Guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation are wonderful tools! I haven’t used these as much as I would like to have, but they are packed with so much goodness! And the pocket guide to reconciliation has everything you need for confession and the examination of conscience.

Part of our homeschooling is making sure that our children are familiar with the saints of the Catholic church. These beautiful people are such gifts from God that truly lived out such faith filled lives for Christ and they are so inspirational. It’s a wonderful gift to share them with the kids. Also, a Rosary Guide for Children is a plus and we love this one from Aquinas Press because the images are just stunning! They use this when we do the rosary and on their own as well.

These two books by Thomas A Kempis have been wonderful! Several other books that I have read have referenced him, so I knew they had to be great. They both feature an older language as they were written hundreds of years ago, but they are brilliant. I am especially in love with The Imitation of Christ. You can grab your own here!

Designing your own classical curriculum is a great book for the Catholic homeschooling family. I personally also love the Catholic All Year. This book can help you to live liturgically by giving you ideas, recipes and ways to celebrate the feast days with your children! To be honest, I need to use this book so much more because it is so ideal. It also explains the church seasons and more. Even our priest was pretty intrigued by this nifty book!

I have had so many people tell me over time that I need the Deliverance Prayers book after a few situations that I’ve personally experienced. I just received it recently and started using it in the morning and oh my, it is good! This book has prayers for all the things that you can think of. Whether it’s for your health, your home or even to break free of generational curses, this book is good. If you’re one to deal with spiritual warfare, poor health or well, anything - then just get it. Your family may really need it one day!

Reasons to Believe is a great book to have to defend your faith, however disclaimer, I haven’t read it. But based on when I’ve flipped through and read about it, I know it’s going to be a great one and I can’t wait to dive in. I think it is important for us to learn our faith and to be able to defend it. It takes a lot of time to learn, but what a gift to have these resources to do so!

These are just some of our favorites and must have references and prayers guides for the home. Stay tuned soon for some of my favorites for the Catholic Mother. Drop a comment below and share with me any books that I may be missing!
