10 Ways to Use Your Essential Oils Beyond the Diffuser

10 Ways to Use Essential Oils Beyond the Diffuser

So you want to use essential oils in your life, but you don’t want to just diffuse them. However you still aren’t on the whole “make your own capsule” or “sip a wellness tea” train yet, so you need to find the inbetween. Let me encourage you on your oily journey so that you find inspiration to bring the oils to other areas of your life and not just that pretty diffuser (although diffusing is the perfect first step with your oils).

First off, please note that the things I say in reference to how we use essential oils is only in regards to a brand such as Young Living, which is truly 100% pure and has the ability to be used internally and topically. While many other bottles of oils on the market will say they are 100% pure, oftentimes the label will not encourage internal or topical use. Young Living oils can be used in many, many ways and they are a brand that you can safely use internally. Their standards go above and beyond and it is why they are the leader of the essential oil industry.

While diffusing oils is a wonderful way to get started, and highly effective for your well being, there are certainly many more ways to use your oils. Oils go beyond the diffuser. Unlike a candle, a plug in or an air freshener, your oils can do much more than you’d imagine. The great thing is that you don’t have to make it too complicated. These uses below are simple, yet super practical and effective ideas!

  1. Use them on wool dryer balls. Ever wonder why people are switching to wool dryer balls in replace of dryer sheets? Well dryer sheets are highly toxic and full of carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. By using a wool dryer ball you can make your clothes smell fresh and still cut back on static. Just place some drops of oils on your wool dryer balls and then toss in the dryer!

  2. Tame down stinky shoes. Add a few drops of your favorite oil (Purification is a great one) to the inside of your tennis shoes and freshen them up!

  3. Freshen the trash can or diaper pail up. Apply a few drops of essential oils (like Purification or Lemongrass) to a cotton ball and leave at the bottom of the trash can. If this doesn’t work, or if you’re dealing with a half full stinky trash, just drop a few drops on a cotton ball and drop in the trash.

  4. Remove sticky things and kids art work. If you’re having trouble getting leftover sticker residue off of something, Lemon oil will save your day! Same goes for removing unwanted crayons, markers and pen marks from certain surfaces.

  5. Make a summer dish. Take some Lime vitality oil and add a few drops to your fruit salad, margaritas, fajitas, mojitos and guac.

  6. Spot treat an itch. It’s easy, just put some lavender on it. With Young Living oils you can apply directly to the skin! If you feel more comfortable mixing it with some coconut oil to apply on children, go ahead!

  7. Tame down the mosquitos. Diffuse some citronella, peppermint, lemongrass and eucalyptus to get rid of mosquitoes. Or add around 5 drops each (more of the citronella) into a glass spray bottle of water and add about 1/4 witch hazel for your own bug spray.

  8. Spray the bed sheets. Freshen them down with a good mixture of oils that you love or spray them down with some Thieves oil to help clean and keep away anything funky.

  9. Freshen up the car. Apply oils to cotton balls and place into the pockets on your doors. You can also use a clothespin to hold a cotton ball in the air vent to give your car a wonderful, fresh scent. This is also good for using calming oils for long road trips for the kiddos!

  10. Kick an ache or pain away. Apply some peppermint or pan away right onto the area of pain. Boom shaka laka — you’re going to feel better! Side note, these oils can be a bit hot on the skin so many choose to dilute, especially on children.
