Apple Tree Painting

Today I am going to share a great way for you to use those old apples sitting on the kitchen counter. Or perhaps you’re learning about gardening and farming, preparing your fall study unit for next year or just looking for something fun and creative for your children to do. This is a great activity for any of those!

Apple painting is fun, easy and the kids love it. We paired our apple tree painting with our fall study unit from Home and Haven and also paired it with several books on farming. Another great book is “The Secrets of the Apple Tree” book from Usborne. This is a magic light book with hidden pictures all throughout about the life within our trees. Our seasonal units are always in addition to our normal curriculum, never hesitate to add in the fun extras. These have been some of our favorite lessons thus far.

Apple Tree Painting

Simply cut some apples into halves, lay out your paints and let the children create their tree tops by using the apple halves similar to the way they would sponge paint. Once their tree tops are done, use markers, round sponge brushes or paint dobblers to create apples in the tree. My children loved this and since I’m not always the craftiest homeschool mama, we often turn to creative painting to pair with our stories and units. There’s no shame in our paint game here! ;) We created our masterpieces on card stock to hold up to all of that paint and left them on display for our fall season. Sometimes the most simple activity becomes one of the best memories.

You can even use old potatoes or citrus fruits for other painting activities.
