Diaper Rash Talk and Oh My DeVita Baby Butter Cheeks

When you are a new mama, you are quick to add diaper cream to your registry and you get excited when you see the little tubes that people give you because you just know you're going to need them.

Well truthfully, I have rarely needed them. Even before I switched to cloth diapers we were always fortunate with our little one's healthy cheeks. Don't get me wrong, she's had very mild rashes here and there (and like one really bad one) but after using a mild, natural cream the rash was usually gone after one or two diaper changes. Personally, I have three diaper cream tips 1) Do not use a rash cream on every diaper change, wait until you see some irritation and then coat it lightly 2) After a few diaper changes with light layers of rash cream, stop using it to let the skin air out and attempt to heal on its own (then proceed to use again if needed) 3) Nix the chemicals.

Sometimes (although we don't realize it) the chemicals we use on diaper rashes can actually irritate them and make them worse, leaving us to believe that it just isn't healing. Lathering sensitive skin with a glop of harsh chemicals is just asking for more irritation and less healing. Babies have sensitive little bottoms (and skin), so let's remember to be sensitive about what we use on it. I know some of the strongest, non natural creams may work for even the worst rash, but if you're having trouble healing and preventing rashes, then think about possibly going to a more natural product.

With that being said, awhile back I did a review on some wonderful bath products by Oh My DeVita Baby, a new natural skin care company aimed at producing safe and effective products for babies. DeVita skin care has been around for awhile and is one of the leading natural and Vegan skin care companies that takes pride in producing products that are paraben free, and free of toxins and harsh chemicals. Their new line for babies, Oh My DeVita Baby, is healthy for your little one and helps eases a mama's mind on what she is putting on baby's skin.

Can I just say that I LOVE this product?! Seriously, every diaper rash cream company out there is crazy for not developing their cream in a cute little stick like this. I never had to touch my baby's bottom! Amazing!!! Even with clean hands, you hate knowing that you could be putting germs on your little one's bottom, not to mention that you hate getting your hands all slimy from diaper rash cream. This stick is just brilliant!

And it WORKS. I had a few slip ups recently where I kinda-sorta left my baby in her diaper for too long (daddy comes home from work and we get distracted playing with baby) and next you thing you know, there was a little hint of irritation from sitting in a wet one too long. I put some of this one and WAAALAAA. By the next change it was gone (this happened a few times so I know it works).

This balm is vegan, gluten free, paraben free and cloth diaper friendly. I just love it!!! Here is just some of the info straight from their web page
  • Probiotically enhanced with a special Vegan probiotic, which helps carry an army of “good guys” onto clean skin to help promote and maintain an optimum skin pH. This helps to discourage skin issues in sensitive places.
  • Zinc Oxide, which is known for its soothing and healing characterizes. In addition it helps form a natural barrier and protective layer between the skin and wet diapers.
  • Organic Aloe Vera base, which is a favorite natural base for almost all DeVita products, with its natural anti-inflammatory, moisturizing, and anti-microbial properties.
  • Naturally derived Essential Oils that do more than just smell good!  For thousands of years naturally derived Essential Oils have been used for their calming and soothing properties as well as natural antibacterial support. calming and soothing properties, and natural antibacterial support.
  • Tea Tree essential oil for additional natural anti-microbial properties.

While I stated above that I don't think you should use a cream every diaper change, if you feel the need for a protectant, this one is so light that I'm sure you could get by with using it pretty regularly. It's so quick and easy -- y'all, I seriously LOVE it.
